MANDENI, KZN - At least nine people died when a bus reportedly lost control and veered off the road into a bush on the N2 North, near Mandeni.
A four year old is among those killed and many more passengers had to be rushed to hospital with moderate to critical injuries.
It is believed that a tyre bust caused the 82-seater bus to lose control while carrying congregants returning home from church on Sunday afternoon.
Paramedics and rescuers had to use ropes to retrieve bodies and survivors from a base of a slope estimated to be 50-metres down.
