Outrage over toddler's death in open manhole in Khutsong

KHUTSONG, Gauteng - A toddler's death has shaken the Khutsong community - and reignited anger over municipal neglect.

Two-year-old Ntseka Nkatshumane drowned after falling into a water-filled manhole in Khutsong.

Residents say the Merafong Municipality ignored their pleas to close a gaping manhole that had been left exposed for months.

They say they’ve been reporting open manholes for months - with no action from the municipality.

The toddler fell in and tragically died.

Now, after spending nearly R2-million on a manhole-covering project, residents are asking - what was that money used for?
