Parliament to vote on impeachment of two judges

CAPE TOWN - MPs are expected to vote on the impeachment two judges.

They are Western Cape Judge President John Hlope and retired judge Nkola Motata.

This follows a recommendation by the Justice Committee that Hlophe be removed from judicial office.

Hlophe's not too confident about the outcome in the National Assembly.

He's filed papers at the High Court in Cape Town to stop the process.

Parliament's confirmed it filed a responding affidavit.

Hlophe and Motata were found guilty of gross misconduct by the Judicial Services Commission.

Hlophe’s case dates back to 2008 when he was accused of trying to influence Constitutional Court justices in matters involving former president Jacob Zuma.

Motata was convicted of drunk driving in 2009.
