Pikitup vows to collect waste this weekend

JOHANNESBURG - The stink in Joburg may soon be cleared up.

Pikitup says it's ready to pick it up again.

It says waste collection has significantly improved amid a protest by contract workers in Johannesburg.

Most of the metros depots have been opened following severe disruptions.

But the Selby depot was affected yesterday after workers forcefully blocked a compactor truck.

Workers are protesting to demand their absorption into the permanent workforce.

The company says it will be working through the weekend to clear waste collection backlogs.
