JOHANNESBURG - Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has commended the police for arresting 5 suspected Cash-in-Transit robbers and foiling a planned heist in Vrede in the Free State.
Police say they were following up on intelligence of a planned CIT heist.

A 40-year-old security officer was shot and killed when the suspects opened fire.
Two suspects were injured and arrested at the scene and police recovered an AK47 and an R5 with more than 240 rounds of high-caliber ammunition.
Three more suspects were intercepted in Memela, about 52km from Vrede, while others escaped.
A manhunt has since been launched for those who fled the scene.
