Porous borders fueling the alarming rise in kidnappings - Senzo Mchunu

EKURHULENI - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says immigration challenges are fuelling kidnappings in South Africa, with many cases involving foreign syndicates and even police officers.

This as three people - a Pakistani, Zimbabwean and Mozambican national - appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court in connection with the kidnapping of 9-year-old Emaan Fatima Ghumman.

Speaking on the sidelines of a police employment and wellness workshop in Ekurhuleni, Mchunu called for stricter border control, saying foreign criminals are exploiting weaknesses in the system.
