Pupil dies after allegedly consuming spaza food

 

JOHANNESBURG - One pupil has died and six others have been hospitalised after allegedly eating food from a local spaza shop in Tshepisong.

It is understood they are Grade 3 pupils.

The Gauteng Education department says the matter is currently being investigated.  

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said, "we can confirm  that there’s about seven learners from one school in Tshepisong who were rushed to a clinic and local hospital."

"Five were transferred later to a regional hospital. Unfortunately, one learner was confirmed has passed away."

"We are talking about Grade 3 children, you can understand that we are quite concerned as a department, it's quite sad what is happening in and around our schools.”
