Ramaphosa grants Madlanga Commission extension

PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted the Madlanga Commission an extension.

Hearings at the Commission will continue until Friday, 2 October 2026.

The Presidency said that the Commission will submit its report on Monday, 16 November 2026, instead of 31 August, as originally anticipated.

"The extension allows the Commission to hear evidence on all of the matters listed in its terms of reference," the Presidency said in a statement.

"Without an extension, the Commission will have to leave large parts of its work unfinished.

"President Ramaphosa once again expresses his deepest appreciation for the work conducted by the Commission as well as for the manner in which law enforcement agencies are following up on testimony emerging from Commission hearings."

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry was set up to investigate alleged police corruption.

Several arrests have been made on the back of testimony there.

The Commission started its work in September 2025.

It was established after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's 6 July press briefing.

The KZN top cop made several allegations of political interference in the police.

It also saw lawmakers dedicating an ad hoc committee in Parliament to look into the allegations.
