Ramaphosa sets strict deadline for police commission of inquiry

KIMBERLEY, NC - President Cyril Ramaphosa says it's important to stick to the strict deadlines set out for the judicial commission of inquiry into the SAPS.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with Northern Cape leaders, Ramaphosa adds that he expects a report from Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga soon.

Ramaphosa's decision to set-up a commission of inquiry follows allegations of rot within police from KZN's Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

The province's top cop claims that the police and justice system are being controlled by criminals. Mkhwanazi says a syndicate is calling the shots and uses top police officials to get away with criminal activities.

The president says it is important for the commission of enquiry to wrap-up investigations into this matter as soon as possible. Ramaphosa hopes a conclusion and outcomes of this inquiry could be presented to him within a year.
