PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa recently spoke to Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on a phone call during which the two leaders discussed their shared commitment to working toward a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war.

On Thursday, Ramaphosa hosted Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During their discussions, President Zelenskyy expressed Ukraine’s readiness to begin negotiations with Russia.

Zelenskyy says he will negotiate a ceasefire with Russia, as long as his country's interests are taken into account.

This despite the hasty change to Zelenskyy's state visit plans because of Russia's latest offensive against Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

One analyst suggests this moment could position South Africa as a potential bridge between Ukraine and Russia.
