SA to engage US over alleged 'land confiscations'

JOHANNESBURG - The South African government says it will be engaging US officials through diplomatic channels.

This is in order to iron out allegations made by US President Donald Trump that the country is confiscating land.

Trump threatened to pull all funding to South Africa until an investigation has been completed.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has not backed down and intends to engage Trump over the issue.

International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Ronald Lamola says the Expropriation Act is not unique to South Africa. 

US President, Donald Trump, alleges South Africa is being confiscated and 'certain classes of people are being treated badly.

Trump is threatening to cut all future funding to South Africa.

Without proof, he claims there are massive human rights violations in South Africa, and wants a full investigation. 

He told Fox News that bad things are happening in South Africa, and the leadership is doing terrible things.

Trump, however, did not mention what terrible things he was referring to.

EFF leader Julius Malema has criticised the United States President , Donald Trump, for cutting future funding to South Africa in response to his interpretation of its land reform policy.

While the EFF disagrees with parts of the Expropriation Act, Malema says Trump should not be interfering in the matter.

The Presidency says it looks forward to engaging the Trump administration over the US president's explosive social media posts.
