SANDF to be deployed to tackle illegal mining

JOHANNESBURG - There will be more boots on the ground to combat illegal mining across the country.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the deployment of 3,300 soldiers to assist the police in tackling the scourge of illegal mining.

The operation, dubbed Operation Prosper, seeks to prevent and combat crime while also maintaining and preserving the law.

It is expected to run until April 2024.
