PRETORIA - KZN Hawks head Major-General Lesetja Senona has denied helping Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala secure a multimillion-rand SAPS tender.
Senona was testifying before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday which is investigating allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.
“I deny allegations that I have assisted Matlala in securing the medicare24 tender," he said.
"Tenders of such value fall under the national saps office. They went through the process, and the tender was awarded to Matlala. I have no knowledge of officials sitting with the bid committee or any other committee members seated there,” Sesona added.
While he admitted to knowing Matlala, he refused to give details of their relationship.
Senona admitted that his wife shares a surname with the alleged underworld boss.
“I’ve never met Mr Matlala because he’s a businessperson. I was introduced as a husband to my wife. Him and my wife share the same surname. She knows Mr Matlala. I have huge successes I don’t sell myself.”
