PRETORIA - Another day, another series of shocking allegations at the Madlanga Commission.
Suspended EMPD chief Isaac Mapiyeye was in the hot seat at public hearings.
He told the inquiry of over 50 irregular senior appointments made between May and July 2024.
Mapiyeye says acting metro police chief Julius Mkhwanazi abused the EMPD to consolidate his base.
He also accused Mkhwanazi of currying favour with 'Cat' Matlala by providing him with blue lights.
Suspended EMDP chief Isaac Mapiyeye has accused former Ekurhuleni city manager Imogen Mashazi of allowing acting metro police chief Julius Mkhwanazi to irregularly appoint senior EMPD officials.
Mapiyeye says some of the officials were much more senior than Mkhwanazi.
Mapiyeye also claims Mkhwanazi abused his position to supply Vusimusi 'Cat' Matlala’s private vehicles with blue lights.
Mkhwanazi allegedly used the services of Matlala's CAT VIP Security company for the 2022 Ekurhuleni State of the City Address.
This was despite the company not being on the municipality's service provider database, which was a breach of procurement policies.
In his testimony, Mapiyeye read Mkhwanazi's justification for using Matlala's security company.
The IPID recommended that action be taken against Mkhwanazi and that an EMPD report be sent back to the police watchdog.
Mapiyeye alleges this never happened due to interference from Mashazi and other officials.
The commission resumes on Friday.
