Social grant delays | Desperate families turn to loan sharks

JOHANNESBURG - Loan sharks have become a necessary evil for hundreds of families who have yet to be paid their monthly social grant.

While Postbank maintains that the glitches that hit the system last week have been resolved, the reality is far different on the ground.

Families have been forced to make tough decisions in these trying times, forcing them into a life of debt.

For the millions who access Sassa grants, glitches in the system are not new.

But an awareness of these shortcomings means nothing to loan sharks and insurers.
