Stage 6 power cuts to remain until further notice

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says Stage 6 blackouts will remain in force until further notice.

The utility says it is hard at work, trying to return generating units to service, after facing setbacks since Thursday.

About 10 generating units were taken out of service due to boiler tube leaks.

This resulted in insufficient generation capacity.

There were also delays in returning three units from planned maintenance.

This contributed to inadequate generation capacity and increased reliance on emergency reserves.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will give an update on the ailing grid on Sunday.
