JOHANNESBURG - The outraged community of Newclare will have to wait until Thursday to find out whether a mother and three others accused of encouraging a child to smoke drugs will be released on bail.
The four suspects are charged with child neglect, child abuse and attempted murder.
And as the accused try to secure their release, the State has indicated that it will oppose bail, given the seriousness of the charges.
Residents say this is but one example of the widespread abuse young people face in Newclare. They are demanding that no bail be granted to the mother and her co-accused.
The National Prosecuting Authority says it’s still determining exactly what the four-year-old was coerced to smoke.
