Third suspect arrested in Kruger National Park double murder

POLOKWANE - Police have arrested a third suspect for the murder of a couple in the Kruger National Park.

The suspect was arrested in Zimbabwe.

The first two were nabbed in Mozambique, following a collaborative cross-border effort. Officials are in the process of extraditing the suspects to South Africa to stand trial for the double murder.

Police said the arrest shows that jumping the border would not help would-be criminals trying to evade justice.

The bodies of Ernst (71) and Dina (73) Marais from Mossel Bay were found with stab wounds on 22 May in the Levubu River after they were reported missing. They were last seen at a picnic site earlier in the week before failing to return.

The victims’ vehicle was also recovered in Mozambique.
