Thousands flood Home Affairs offices on last voter registration weekend

JOHANNESBURG - The Home Affairs department  sys that over 33,500 people have taken advantage of its extended hours over the voter registration weekend.

Over the two day period over 23,000 people collected their Identity Documents.

A further 9,000 - consisting mostly of first-time applicants - came to collect their IDs.

In addition, approximately 1,000 people applied for and received their temporary ID certificates on the spot.

A total of 148 people were referred by the Independent Electoral Commission to Home Affairs to update their status on the Voters’ Roll.
