Three years since Russia invaded Ukraine

JOHANNESBURG - The world is marking the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine today.

While Ukraine is fretting about its future.

Three years down the line, Donald Trump has come into power in the United States and America’s stance on Ukraine has changed.

The US earlier voted AGAINST a European-drafted resolution condemning Moscow’s actions and supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Trump has shown signs of abandoning Ukraine or allowing some of its territory to be taken by Moscow.

Last week he organized direct talks with Russia that excluded Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and Europe.

European leaders have been trying to pull him back.

On Tuesday, he met French President Emmanuel Macron and on Thursday he will meet the UK’s leader, Sir Keir Starmer.

At a meeting afterwards Trump said a deal to end the war was close.
