Tides and cold front combination resulted in unnaturally high waves - NSRI

JOHANNESBURG - National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon says spring tides are normal, but a combination of tides and a cold front resulted in the unnaturally high waves.

Waves wreaked havoc in coastal areas.

Homes have been flooded and cars swept away after the tides hit the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend.

One person has died dozens others have been injured.
