JEFFREYS BAY - A female traffic officer has died after a head-on collision with a long-distance bus on the N2 in Jeffreys Bay.
The officer was travelling back to her station in a state vehicle after responding to an earlier scene.
She was trapped in her vehicle, and emergency service officials worked to free her.
However she was declared dead on impact.
All occupants of the bus escaped unharmed.
The road remains closed to traffic as recovery and clean-up operations continue.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened with Jeffreys Bay SAPS for further investigation.
