Tshwane mayor seeks over R300M to tackle sinkhole crisis

VALHALLA, GP - Tshwane Mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, says talks to ensure National Government assists with the city’s deepening sinkhole crisis are underway. 

There are at least 65 serious sinkholes in the metro, and Moya says over R300 million is needed to repair the damage.

Many homeowners have seen their properties vanish — with ageing and leaking infrastructure causing most of the destruction.

The capital city is hoping to secure R5-billion in funding at its upcoming Investment Summit, scheduled for the 10th of September. But the question remains: how can Tshwane restore investor confidence when massive sinkholes are choking economic activity?

As the city attempts to lure foreign investment — its local businesses and residents will continue to bear the brunt, unless the metro urgently addresses the sinkhole crisis
