Tshwane places five officials on precautionary suspension over Rooiwal tender award

JOHANNESBURG - Five senior officials from the City of Tshwane have been placed on precautionary suspension for the controversial Rooiwal tender award.

This follows a year-long internal disciplinary process that found them guilty on one of the four charges they faced.

They were charged with gross negligence and poor conduct that subsequently led to a breach of various policies and legislation.

The charges related to a matter involving Blackhead Consulting Services, which was awarded the Rooiwal tender.

The disciplinary board chairperson recommended a one month suspension without pay, as punishment, but the city disagreed with that outcome and sought legal opinion on it.

City manager Johann Mettler then decided to suspend the employees on full pay, pending a review of the ruling.
