JOHANNESBURG – The South Africa Police Service (SAPS) has established two new specialised units to strengthen the fight against organised crime in Gauteng.
The two new units are aimed at tackling specific high-priority crime threats.
The first unit will be a political killings task team.
In a statement, the Ministry of Police said this specialised team will focus on investigating political assassinations as we all politically motivated killings of government officials.
The second unit will focus on crimes related to kidnapping, extortion and offences targeting infrastructure projects.
“The establishment of these units demonstrate the SAPS’ commitment to strengthening its capacity to disrupt and dismantle organised criminal networks, while ensuring that perpetrators of serious crimes are brought to justice,” the Ministry said in statement.
