JOHANNESBURG - Two people have been shot dead outside the Booysens Magistrate's Court in Oakdene South, Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Three others were rushed to the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds.
According to the police spokesperson Brenda Muridili the group was in court to support an accused who was appearing on a murder and attempted murder case.
The matter dates back to April 2025 at Mondeor.
"One of the injured victims has been identified as the lawyer representing the accused," she said.
Muridili says preliminary investigations reveal that three alleged shooters approached the group as they were leaving the court and fired shots before fleeing the scene.
"We know that they fled the scene by foot but once they got out of the premises they were picked up by a white Audi which is a clone car," she said
The motive surrounding the incident is still unknown.
Police are investigating two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Andries Nel visited the scene and spoke with the media about safety outside the court.
