Victims of George building collapse want R2,85m donation from recent land auction

GEORGE - Families of the 62 victims of the George building collapse are urging the project’s funder to donate the R2,85 million raised from the recent land auction to support the victims and their families.

The tragedy struck in May 2024, when a newly built five-storey building collapsed in George, killing 34 workers and injuring 28.

The developer, Neo Victoria Developments, has since gone into liquidation.

The disaster site was recently auctioned off.

Now, survivors and victims’ families say they’re destitute as they wait for the Department of Labour to process their workers’ compensation claims.
