'We have not seen the end of this playout' - Analyst on 2026 G20 Summit

JOHANNESBURG - It remains unclear how United States (US) President Donald Trump will exclude South Africa, a founding member of the G20, from the 2026 Summit.

Trump has announced that South Africa will not be invited.

International Relations expert Dr Oscar van Heerden has weighed in on Trump's utterances.

He says, “From what we know in terms of the history of the G20 it’s impossible and has never been done before. Trump is a disrupter and will try to do it for the first time."

van Heerden anticipates that the U.S will deny the South African delegation entry.

"Trump knows that this is not a done thing, this is a diplomatic full power, and I think we have not seen the end of this playout yet," he concludes.
