Wits denies having any record of 'Dr Lani'

JOHANNESBURG - The University of the Witwatersrand says that it has no records that a popular TikTok influencer graduated from the institution as a medical doctor.

Matthew Lani claims he skipped grades at school and completed his medical degree in his early 20s.

However, the institution says that it has no knowledge of anyone by the name 'Matthew Bongani Zingelwa' or 'Sanele Zingelwa' who graduated in recent years.

Lani has been trending on social media as users have been questioning if his medical degree is real or not.

He has appeared on several radio talk shows stating that he was in an abusive relationship and infected with HIV by his former partner. Lani has also started crowdfunding campaigns to raise thousands of Rand.

He currently has more than 250,000 followers on TikTok and discusses medical issues in some of his videos.
