JOHANNESBURG - Nations that do not take measures to protect the planet from climate change are violating international law.
And, countries feeling the impact are entitled to reparations from big polluters.
That's according to a historic advisory from the International Court of Justice.
It found that Climate Change is an urgent and existential threat to humanity.
The World Court was hearing a case led by the Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu and 130 other countries.
While the advisory is not binding, it may impact future litigation.
We discuss this with leading climate scientist, Professor Francois Engelbrecht, director of the Global Change Institute at Wits University.
