James Hodge, Chief Economist and Acting Deputy Commissioner, says they are looking at ways to ensure that South Africa keeps up with the digital world without being left behind or paying foreign companies for services that could be offered locally.

He says it’s a tricky balance the Commission wants to encourage innovation without being too harsh or restrictive.

Hodge also highlighted that while digital platforms can lead to job losses, they also have the potential to create many new jobs  which is why a strong and well-balanced digital policy is needed.
