Concerns over copper theft

JOHANNESBURG - Keeping the lights on in South Africa is becoming quite costly, and cable thieves are playing a major role.

It costs Eskom nearly R10-billion annually to resolve the recurring issue.

A week ago, a gun battle broke out between City Power security guards and heavily armed cable thieves forcing City Power to abandon the job.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said that they are increasingly finding themselves to budget for the security to protect the infrastructure.
