Cricket | Moroney named Proteas men's convenor of selectors

THABAZIMBI - The Proteas Men’s team has a new convenor of selectors. Patrick Moroney has been appointed to the role and will officially begin on 1 August.

This marks the return of the position after it was scrapped in 2023 by Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe, who opted to dissolve the selection panel. Moroney succeeds Victor Mpitsang, with whom he worked closely between 2019 and 2023.

His first major task will be overseeing selections for South Africa’s upcoming white-ball tour of Australia, which kicks off on 10 August.

Speaking on his appointment, Moroney acknowledged the pressure that comes with the role, stating that South Africans are passionate about winning and strong performances. He added that he couldn’t have asked for a better time to take on the challenge.
