Discussion | Can Eskom exempt essential services from power cuts?

JOHANNESBURG - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and Eskom have been ordered to exempt essential services from power cuts by the end of January next year.

This means institutions like schools, hospitals, clinics and police stations should never have their lights off during load shedding.

Civil society groups and political parties took the matter to court to declare blackouts a violation of human rights.
