JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu released the latest quarterly crime stats.

We saw a decline in murder but a troubling rise in gender-based violence.

Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal also accounted for almost half of all murders recorded countrywide.

Lizette Lancaster from the Institute for Security Studies says they are hoping to see new strategies from the police to curb this issue.
