JOHANNESBURG - The National Council of Provinces has given the National Health Insurance Bill the green light. The bill was passed by the National Assembly in June and sent to the NCOP for concurrence.

Eight provinces besides the Western Cape voted in support.

One of the purposes of the Bill is to establish a National Health Insurance Fund. The Fund will purchase healthcare services for all users who are registered with it.

The law will establish a National Health Insurance Fund, and sets out its powers, functions, and governance structures.
