JOHANNESBURG - The clock is ticking on US President Donald Trump’s tariff deadline, with just one day to go before South African products are slapped with a 30% levy.
Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago has warned that up to 100,000 jobs are on the line agriculture and automotive industries being the most vulnerable.
Pretoria has tabled an offer to reduce the tariff rate, but as Toni Waterman reports from Washington, the Trump administration has yet to respond.
Close, but no cigar.
Despite repeated appeals from various sectors, there’s still no word on an official trade deal between South Africa and the US.
