SOWETO - It’s Youth Day, a public holiday that marks the powerful legacy of 16 June 1976.
That's when young people took to the streets of Soweto to fight against Afrikaans as a medium of instruction.
But, it was a broader fight for justice and equality.
The South African Morning is broadcasting from the Hector Pieterson Museum in Orlando West.
The landmark stands as both a memorial and a reminder of that turning point in our nation’s history.
To help us reflect on the meaning of this day is chief curator of the museum, Prince Dube.
