SOWETO - It’s Youth Day, a public holiday that marks the powerful legacy of 16 June 1976.

That's when young people took to the streets of Soweto to fight against Afrikaans as a medium of instruction.

But, it was a broader fight for justice and equality.

The South African Morning is broadcasting from the Hector Pieterson Museum in Orlando West.

The landmark stands as both a memorial and a reminder of that turning point in our nation’s history.
