Discussion | SAHRC accepts public apologies in hate speech cases

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Human Rights Commission has accepted public apologies from Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi and Belinda Magor after both were found to have breached hate speech laws .

Baloyi sparked outrage for racially offensive comments about white people during two podcast episodes earlier in 2025.

Magor, meanwhile, was slammed for making anti-black and misogynistic remarks last December.

In both cases, the SAHRC found prima-facie evidence of hate speech and unfair discrimination.

As part of their settlements both have issued public apologies, committed to diversity training, and will perform community service.
