JOHANNESBURG - Some schools in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape are reeling in shock following the death of at least 24 pupils as a result of suspected poisoning, murder and accidents.
The surge in pupils' deaths has triggered concerns about the mental well-being of pupils and brought school safety issues back into the spotlight.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union says the surge in pupil deaths is discouraging would-be teachers from pursuing the profession.
