JOHANNESBURG South Africa faces a silent but escalating health crisis, microplastics.

Studies reveal that over 80% of the country's freshwater, and 90% of coastal sediments are contaminated with tiny plastic particles. These then end up our in food.

Experts warn of long term health risks ranging from hormone disruption to organ damage.

A local company Fortis X, says its plant-based, fully biodegradable bottles, could be part of the solution.

Its director Nicholas de Beer, spoke to Abigail Visagie.
