Discussion | Stalled repairs on uMzimkhulu bridge costing residents

UMZIMKHULU, KZN - The closure of the Umzimkhulu River Bridge along the RI02 on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast is costing locals daily.

Residents are forced to use a toll gate, which costs them R40 per trip. Emergency repairs to restore safety for motorists and pedestrians were supposed to run for six months.

But locals see no end in sight and are frustrated because work has stopped due to a contractual issue.

Sal Musa, from the Albersville Ratepayers Association says the closure of the bridge has led to traffic congestion and is inconveniencing local motorists.
