Discussion | Transnet Recovery Plan | Private operators invited to invest in freight rail

JOHANNESBURG - State capture, corruption, and bad decisions have thrown Transnet seriously off-track in recent years. Added to that, a lack of maintenance was blamed for a backlog at South African ports last year.

But Transnet says it has a plan to turn things around. A National Logistics Crisis Committee has been established by the President and corridor recovery teams which added independent experts and the private sector.

Transnet is also welcoming private rail operators to invest alongside the parastatal's freight rail. But is this enough to set things right?

Transnet Chairperson Andile Sangqu had a conversation with the eNCA.
