JOHANNESBURG - The final credits have rolled for Ster-Kinekor at Cavendish Square in Cape Town.
It’s the third major closure this year.
Earlier this year, it also exited Bedford Square in Johannesburg and Gateway in Umhlanga.
This is raising questions about the future of South Africa’s biggest cinema chain and the sustainability of the movie business in a shifting entertainment landscape.
But as the curtain falls on some locations, Ster-Kinekor insists the show isn’t over yet, just shifting focus.
Joining us now to unpack what’s behind the closures is Ster-Kinekor's Mark Sardi.
