Family waiting for Health Ombud findings

MMAKAU - A family in Mmakau in the North West is still seeking justice for their loved one's death.

The Mohlamme family wants people jailed for the death of their loved one.

Lerato Mohlamme died in a fire at the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in 2024.

Staff at the healthcare facility appear to have tried to hide the circumstances around the 35-year-old’s passing.

She died at George Mukhari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa in 2024 after a fire broke out in the psychiatric unit.

The Health Ombud is set to release the findings of its investigation on Monday.

It's been 21 months since the Mohlamme family's world was turned upside down.

Mohlamme's sister, Molebogeng said they just want the truth.

“I told them that Lerato told me that you guys are ill-treating. There are several cases we have been hearing about George Mukhari, but we decided to let it go. It’s not the first case that Lerato has been complaining about the hospital. There was an accident that Lerato once reported the securities that something had happened, but I didn’t want to go into details. They weren’t treating her good, but we left it. But now it shows that all along, my sister was telling the truth.”

After the SA Human Rights Commission laid a complaint, the Health Ombud did its own investigations

The family has now received a report about events surrounding the mother-of-two’s death.
