JOHANNESBURG - With gender-based violence declared a national disaster, does it mean more focused action and increased resources to fight the scourge?
South Africa has one of the world's highest femicide rates, with the United Nations Women estimating that it is five times higher than the global average.
Dr Bongani Sithole, head of the National Disaster Management Centre, said departments were struggling with money.
"With the classification, we'll be able to tap into other financial mechanisms which exist in other departments," he said.
