Joburg potholes a recipe for disaster

JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Roads Agency says potholes have become a moving target, especially after heavy rains.

The entity repaired more than 17,500 potholes in the first quarter of this year.

But for many, the numbers presented on paper simply don’t reflect the reality on the ground.

Because, while the city counts potholes repaired, motorists say those numbers are cooked.

Usually, these pots are used to prepare meals, but now there's an entirely new use for them - measuring the size of Johannesburg’s potholes, and the fact that some fit perfectly tells you everything about the state of the city’s roads.

One chef joined Nabeela Shaikh, turning cookware into measuring tools to expose just how bad the pothole problem has become.
