JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water has been given 48 hours to restore water supply to the Children’s Memorial Institute in Braamfontein.
Around 20 NGOs based at the Institute have been without water for over 20 days after the utility cut supply, citing unpaid bills.
Claudine Ribeiro from the Institute says it’s been an incredibly difficult time.
“We haven’t had toilet facilities. We’ve had to collect water, and our children haven’t been able to receive proper care,” she said.
The water cut has placed vulnerable, special-needs children at serious risk.
But the Institute has now won a court application challenging the disconnection.
