Maduro appears in court as 'narco-terrorist'

JOHANNESBURG - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is set to appear in a New York court.

He faces charges of narco-terrorism and drug trafficking.

He was captured in a dramatic US special forces raid in Caracas.

US officials insist it was a law enforcement operation, not a war, but critics are questioning its legality.

Maduro is denying the claims, calling the operation a pretext to seize Venezuela's oil.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is doubling down, saying Colombia's Gustavo Petro is next.

He has also repeated his desire to take over Greenland, which drew the ire of Danish Prime MInister, Mette Frederiksen.

International Relations expert Dr Kingsley Makhubela says Trump has upset some of his allies with the attack on Venezuela.
