JOHANNESBURG - The bets are on whether the Rand can reach R16 to the dollar soon.
The currency broke through the psychological level of R16.20 to the dollarand briefly touched R16.13 to the dollar -– its strongest level in more than three years.
The Rand was already strengthening earlier in the week and reacted positively to relief across markets following US President Donald Trump's assertion that he won't use force to get Greenland.
But there is also better sentiment towards South Africa, which has helped the currency to strengthen by more than 12 percent in the last year.
This time last year, the Rand was above R18 to the dollar.
It broke through R17 to the dollar in December.
